Sermons and Teaching

Want to catch up on sermons you may have missed from St Paul's?

Or just want to go back over something?

We are recording lots of talks from our Sunday services, as well as other teaching we offer, to help go back over what God might have to say over the weeks.

25th May 2025:
Stories of the Spirit - Ascension

Acts 1: 1-11

Luke 24: 44-end

We begin a short sermon series about the Holy Spirit, remembering Jesus's promise that he would send his Holy Spirit to clothe his followers with power. Revd Abby asks what this might mean as we help people encounter Jesus for themselves.

8th June 2025:
Stories of the Spirit - Pentecost

Acts 2: 1-21

As we celebrate the Holy Spirit coming down on the followers of Jesus on the day of Pentecost, Lou Peet asks how the Spirit can continue to renew us. With a baptism and a renewal of marriage vows in the same service, how can we all welcome the Spirit's renewing?

18th May 2025:
Easter 5

Acts 11: 1-18
John 13: 31-35

The story of Peter and Cornelius is full of surprises but it's also a story of faith and trust when the Spirit catches followers of Jesus unawares! Revd Stacy asks what we can learn from this amazing account and how Peter talks about it to others.

11th May 2025:
Easter 4

Acts 9: 36-end
John 10: 22-30

Jesus refers to himself as the Good Shepherd but what sort of sheep are we? And who does Jesus include in his flock? Revd Abby thinks about what Jesus says about who belongs to him and how we can stay close to the Good Shepherd.

20th April 2025:
Easter Sunday

Acts 10: 34-43
Luke 24: 1-12

Happy Easter! Revd Abby looks at the story of the resurrection and how the disciples made the mistake of looking for the living among the dead. What is dead that needs new life breathed into it by our risen Lord? And how can we share the good news with the world?

13th April 2025:
Palm Sunday

Psalm 118: 19-24
Luke 19:28-40

Lou Peet helps us to start our journey through Holy Week, looking at the symbolism and meaning around Jesus's triumphal entry into Jerusalem. What does it have to say to us and how might this familiar story help us look at Jesus in new ways?

6th April 2025:
The God Story - Stepping into it

Luke 24: 13-35

As we come to the end of the God Story series, Revd Abby and Lou led an interactive time where we could all think about the story we want our church and its building to tell. How does the story of the Road to Emmaus help us to focus on this?

30th March 2025: The God Story -
The Revelation

Romans 8: 18-28
Revelation 21: 1-6

Revd Stacy thinks through the words that were left for God's church as the bible ends. What do they reveal to us about God's priorities for the world and how should we get involved in revealing his love to the people around us?

23rd March 2025: The God Story -
The Church

Ephesians 3: 1-12

Acts 2: 42-47

When the Holy Spirit came down at Pentecost, he ignited a movement that has gone across the world and lasted 2000 years so far - God's church in the world. Revd Abby asks what that means for us and how we can be church for those around us.

16th March 2025: The God Story -
The Passion

Colossians 1: 15-20
Luke 22: 14-30

Why does Jesus coming to earth to die for us and to take the punishment for our sins on himself matter so much? And why did he need to rise again? As we approach Holy Week, Revd Stacy invites us to ask these big questions.

9th March 2025:
The God Story -
The King

Isaiah 61: 1-4

Luke 4: 1-21

Jesus was an unlikely King, fulfilling scriptures in unlikely ways. Revd Abby asks what we can learn from how he resisted temptation in ways that God's people had not, and how he might be inviting us to join him in growing his Kingdom on earth.

5th March 2025:
Ash Wednesday

Isaiah 58: 1-12

John 8: 1-11

Revd Abby asks us to consider what the good news might be about Ash Wednesday. As we begin Lent - a season of penitence - what good news might God be asking us to look for among the ashes?
