Summer 2025: Silent Stories

Learning from the stories of those with little or no voice in the bible - how were their lives changed by their encounters with God and how did their stories change the faith of others?

27th July 2025:
Silent Stories - Barnabus

Acts 4: 32-37

As we begin a new sermon series, Revd Stacy looks at Barnabus. He was active and busy - referenced over and over again in the New Testament - but his voice is never heard. Stacy asks if we could say our actions speak louder than words, just like Barnabus.

10th August 2025:
Silent Stories - Priscilla and Aquila

Acts 18: 23-28

Even if we don't hear the voices of Prisca - or Priscilla - and Aquila in the New Testament, we know that they had a huge impact on the early church and how it made disciples and sent them out. Revd Abby asks what their story can tell us about our calling to mission where we are.

3rd August 2025:
Silent Stories - Bleeding Woman/ Jairus's daughter

Mark 5: 22-43

We never hear the voices of the bleeding woman who interrupts Jesus and is healed by touching the hem of his cloak or the little girl he went on to raise from the dead. Rosie Lee asks what their silent acts of faith tell us about following Jesus.

17th August 2025:
Silent Stories - The Paralysed Man

Luke 5: 17-26

When his friends destroyed a roof to lower the paralysed man down to Jesus, we hear how his heart-health was the priority over his physical health. Revd Mary explores how we can stay expectant for healing from Jesus with forgiveness of sins as well as physical symptoms.

31st August 2025:
Silent Stories - Anna

Luke 2: 36-40

Anna's story can feel like a footnote at the end of Luke's account of Jesus's birth but her example shows us how to faithfully live as a disciple. Revd Abby asks how we can live faithfully, prayerfully and ready to tell the story of God's rescue plan in our lives and the world around us.
